Welcome to EuropeHIV Resistance website
In addition, active exchange of good practices and standards is sought with other European cohorts studying the morbidity and mortality of HIV/AIDS both in adults and children. This way, a powerful platform is realized for communication between HIV/AIDS cohort studies.
This increased coordination will lead to new coordinated data and knowledge on transmission, prevalence and factors facilitating the emergence and spread of drug resistant HIV in Europe, providing the pharmaceutical industry, scientific community and public health authorities with valuable new input for the development of new drugs, new treatment recommendations, intervention programs and prophylactic guidelines necessary to effectively confront the global emergency caused by HIV.

Pathogens persisting for long periods in the face of the immune system, such as HIV, HCV or HBV, can cause long-standing epidemics for which is difficult to trace the origin and their routes of dispersal. For fast evolving pathogens (e.g. HIV or HCV) tracing the evolutionary history of the virus provide the only reliable tool to infer the origin, the past epidemic growth as well as the spatial dispersal of viral epidemic. Viral phylogenies from variants samples across different areas, phylogeography, can provide patterns of grouping of the viral lineages according to their locality. Specifically, phylogeography focus on the study of the contemporary geographic distributions of individuals in light of the patterns associated with viral genealogy. Thus, phylogeography tracks virus’ long march by means of viral phylogenies.
The study was performed among members of CATCH and SPREAD collaboration.
